Matteo Berrettini: friend Lorenzo Sonego’s advice.

Lorenzo Sonego returned to talk about the first-round loss to his friend Matteo Berrettini in an interview granted to ‘Fanpage’: “I’m happy anyway with my game. Of course I was sorry to lose, because I was feeling very good and I had the opportunity to move on. I lost to a friend and it was good to see him move on in light of all he had to go through. It was good to see him smile again.”

The Piedmontese tennis player revealed that he gave his compatriot some advice: “I advised Berrettini to be patient. I explained to him that recovering from injury and returning to winning was not a given after what he had done over the years. He had to be patient, with time he would get back to his level.”

Sonego then confessed that he was not interested in not being in the spotlight: “I actually don’t care, I never worried about whether they were talking about me or not. Everyone has their own path. Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti are two very young guys, so it’s normal to talk about them-they are the future of Italy. Berrettini is the one who has achieved the most at the Italian level: by making Slam semifinals and finals he has reached goals that I have never reached. It’s right that we talk about them.”

Meanwhile, Sonego is busy in the ATP 250 Gstaad, where he will make his debut Thursday against Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Fabio Fognini’s first-round executioner.
