F1, Fernando Alonso bluntly on the new qualifying format
Fernando Alonso’s words after qualifying for the Hungarian GP
After finishing eighth in the qualifying session of the Hungarian Gp, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso analyzed his performance and bluntly commented on the new qualifying format.
“I don’t think our position is related to the new qualifying format. In all free practice we saw a grid with different teams that had ups and downs,” the Spanish driver began at the microphones of “Sky Sport F1.”
“The whole weekend has been a bit strange for everyone. These new Pirelli tires have changed things a bit: Red Bull went from dominating all the races to not even being able to get pole position, while Perez is always fighting to get into Q3. We at Aston Martin have had a drop in performance from nothing, while teams like McLaren and Alfa Romeo have made huge strides. When you change the rules in the middle of the season, it’s not good in my opinion,” added Fernando Alonso.
