Filippo Zana sees the light at the end of the tunnel
Filippo Zana is about to return from injury
After surrendering to bad luck, which prevented him from fighting for the Tricolor encore (due to a fall in training that gave him a fractured collarbone just days before the Italian Championships), Filippo Zana is preparing his return to the roads with a very specific goal, to return to 100 percent as soon as possible and, why not, have his say at the Vuelta, at the level of stage victories.
“If I can recover well I would like to go to the Vuelta,” the 2022 Italy champion told ‘InBici,’ “actually I’m still seeing how the body responds after the injury. The operation went for the best, now I’m doing rehabilitation to try to recover 100 percent.”
“I’ve been back on the bike more or less for a week,” added the Team Jayco AlUla rider. Getting back on the bike has not been easy but I am trying to regain my condition. It will be important to understand how I will be after the retreat in Livigno, which will start on Monday.”
Zana, class of 1999, was having a decent season, with a success at the Giro d’Italia in the Val di Zoldo stage and a win in the Tour of Slovenia (despite a big scare during one stage, in which he fell into a cliff fortunately without getting hurt). A few days before the road test of the Italian Championships, however, the unfortunate episode of the fall in training that forced him to stop. No tricolor encore, then: to succeed Zana, in the roll of honor of the competition, Simone Velasco of Astana Qazaqstan Team.
