Too much Ruud for Musetti: final in Bastad fades away
ATP Bastad: Musetti falls at the best of times, Ruud goes to the final
Lorenzo Musetti comes to a halt at the most beautiful point on his way to the ATP 250 in Bastad. The Italian had to surrender to the number one seed on the draw, Casper Ruud, who defeated him in two sets with a score of 6-3 7-5 after an hour and forty-five minutes of play.
In the first set to break the balance was the Norwegian who grabbed the break at 3-2 and kept it without any fuss until the final 6-3. Lorenzo tries to fight back in the second set but cannot find a way to snatch the break from Ruud. So it goes on with both players holding their serve but when the tie-break seems around the corner, comes the decisive break of the world number four, who snatches the serve from Musetti at zero at 5-5 and goes to serve for the match, closing on the third match point.
Musetti must thus bid farewell to the Swedish tournament, while Ruud awaits the winner of the match between the number two seed Andrey Rublev and Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the final.
