Azure wants to be a protagonist in Budapest

From next August 19 (until the 27th), the World Championships will be staged in Budapest. An appointment that Tamberi particularly cares about, so much so that he has rearranged his competition program to arrive at the rainbow event in the best possible shape.

On Sunday, August 6, he will be the protagonist at the German high jump meeting in Heilbronn, but no Absolute: “I’m sorry, of course, but I can’t afford a competition at an extra large pace. Sottile will do very well and, after the recent 2.25, I am curious to see Lando. He said I inspire him: it always makes me feel strange to hear that. I thanked him,” his words to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Tamberi wants to regain the best possible form, also because his opponents, people like Harrison and Barshim, seem ready to shine at the World Championships in Budapest: “Since the beginning of the year I have been claiming that, with South Korean Woo, they are the most dangerous. They have jumped measures within reach; I just need to register technically.” And it needs to be done at the right times, without forcing. Tamberi wants to center his races to concentrate all his strengths to be competitive at the Worlds, just as his friend Jacobs is doing: “I didn’t go into the details of his problems, I didn’t want to be indiscreet. But if he’s aiming for the Worlds, it’s because he knows he can be a protagonist. In speed, you don’t need to test yourself too much. Plus, the current competition does not seem irresistible to me. He will be a great outsider,” Tamberi’s closing remark.
