Lorenzo Musetti beats Elias Ymer and goes to the round of 16 in Hamburg.

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Elias Ymer in the first round of the Hamburg ATP 500 clay court tournament: the Carrara-based tennis player won 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and sixteen minutes of play, thus qualifying for the round of 16 at the event in the German port city.

Musetti was polished in recovering after a bad start, with Ymer able to take a one break lead, at 3-1, in the first set. From there, in fact, that of the world number 18 was a veritable monologue, with no less than eleven games won out of the next thirteen, propelling him all the way to victory.

Disposed, then, of the rust of the Bastad tournament, in which Musetti had climbed all the way to the semifinals before surrendering in two sets, ending, 6-3, 7-5, to Norwegian Casper Ruud, number 4 in the ATP ranking.

Class of 2002, Lorenzo Musetti found just in Hamburg, in 2022, his first victory in a major circuit tournament: on that occasion he beat Carlos Alcaraz, two sets to one, in the final. His second (and so far last) success on the ATP Tour, on the other hand, dates back to October 2022, when Musetti managed to defeat Matteo Berrettini in the final, two sets to zero, in the tournament in Naples.
