ATP Hamburg: darkness interrupts Lorenzo Musetti’s comeback
Match interrupted, will be made up Thursday.
Lorenzo Musetti still does not know the outcome of his match against Jozef Kovalik in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg. In fact, the match was interrupted during the second set, when the Italian was recovering after the difficulties of the first: the suspension came at the score of 3-6, 4-1.
The chair judge decided to suspend the match because of poor visibility. Court 1 in Hamburg was in fact without floodlights and the brightness made the continuation of the match problematic. Musetti and Kovalik will therefore resume hostilities on Thursday, restarting from the score at which the match was interrupted.
Musetti had suffered the initiatives of the Slovak in the first set, who was good at cancelling three break points and exploiting one in turn: the three games in a row then allowed him to take the lead. Equilibrium turned upside down in the next set, with a partial 10 points to 1 for the Tuscan and a break in his favor. Then the suspension, sanctioned by the chair judge after a conciliation with the two players.
In the first round of the Hamburg ATP 500 clay court tournament, Musetti had defeated Elias Ymer in two sets, winning 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and sixteen minutes of play and thus qualifying for the round of 16 at the event in the German port city. Disposed, then, of the rust from the Bastad tournament, in which the Carrara native had climbed all the way to the semifinals before bowing out in two sets, ending, 6-3, 7-5, to Norway’s Casper Ruud, number 4 in the ATP rankings.
