Carlos Sainz armors up at Ferrari, but with one condition
Clear words with a view to the future.
Carlos Sainz also wants Ferrari in his future, setting only one condition to his stay in red. The Spanish driver spoke about this in an interview granted to the compatriots of ‘Mundo Deportivo’, in the same days in which his and Charles Leclerc’s future in Maranello is being discussed. Moreover, team principal Frederic Vasseur has repeatedly made it clear that the team’s priorities at the moment are other.
“My priority is to stay in Ferrari, at the moment I don’t see a better place to be in Formula 1,” Sainz said bluntly. The team has a great ambition to come back and win, and I want to win. I want to do it and, if the chances were there, to fight for the title. These are goals we share, so I don’t see why I shouldn’t continue racing here.”
Sainz also said, moreover, that he is not living anxiously with the delay in the renewal of his contract with Ferrari, but at the same time he wants to define his future in these months. “This is something I have already said many times. I always like to approach the last season in which I am under contract with a team knowing where I will be in the following year. My intention is for the same to happen again this year.”
On the prospect of accepting any renewal offer from Ferrari, however, Sainz joked, “It depends on the contract they propose to me,” he said with a laugh. “You need two people to find an agreement, at which point you can shake hands and sign. If the agreement cannot be found, however, you can always talk and try to find it. I will do everything I can to continue my career in a team like Ferrari.”
