Jannik Sinner in Turin for ATP Finals: federation hopes
The big goal is to bring an Italian to Turin.
Jannik Sinner in Turin for the third edition of the Nitto ATP Finals. This is the big goal of FITP, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, as its president Angelo Binaghi clearly stated at a press conference held in the Piedmontese capital.
“Our intention for this year will be to do things even bigger, also because that is what the sports results suggest to us,” Binaghi explained, “The ATP circuit has passed the halfway mark, as it is missing only one Slam out of four and four Masters 1000 out of nine. Then the point about Sinner: “There is an Italian in fifth place in the Race, the ranking that allows one to get to the ATP Finals. And his lead over ninth is over a thousand points.”
Recall that Sinner is, yes, fifth, but tied on points with Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is actually ahead of him (effectively making the South Tyrolean sixth). Leading the Race at the moment is Carlos Alcaraz, already certain to take part in the ATP Finals after winning the always prestigious Wimbledon tournament. Also second, and virtually certain to qualify, is Novak Djokovic.
Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev follow, both currently ahead of Tsitsipas and Sinner. Behind them are currently Holger Rune and Casper Ruud, who a year ago in Turin was a finalist in the 2022 ATP Finals. These very positions could still change ahead of the tournaments held in the United States and the subsequent ones to be held indoors.
