ATP Hamburg: Lorenzo Musetti suffers but is in the quarters
It took Lorenzo Musetti two days to get the better of Slovak Jozef Kovalik, number 172 in the ATP rankings, in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 in Hamburg. The Italian, in fact, overturned the match, suspended due to darkness on Wednesday at the score of 6-3 1-4 in favor of Kovalik, winning it 3-6 6-2 6-4 after 2 hours and 7 minutes of play.
In the first set it was the Italian who first had break chances at 3-3, but he squandered three out of three. The Slovak, on the contrary, does not let himself be begged and at the first useful opportunity goes up 5-3 and goes to serve for the set, closing it 6-3. Immediate reaction from Lorenzo in the second partial, but at 4-1 in his favor the match was interrupted due to darkness.
Re-entering the court, the Carrara-based tennis player has no problem closing quickly 6-2 in the second partial, extending the match to the third and decisive set. Here Musetti gets off to a bad start and goes down 4-2, but from that moment he makes no more mistakes, and even with a bit of luck, he gets 4 consecutive games, making the match his.
In the quarterfinals the reigning Hamburg champion will find Serbia’s Laslo Djere, ahead 5-2 in the previous set.
