Charles Leclerc bets on weather for Belgian GP
Charles Leclerc’s words at the press conference in Spa
After disappointing tests at Silverstone and the Hungaroring, Charles Leclerc seeks redemption at Spa, where he won his first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2019.
“I try to give my best every weekend but of course it’s always special to come back where you won your first race,” the Monegasque driver admitted in a press conference. “It’s a beautiful memory of a special moment, although there were circumstances that made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the moment because we had lost Anthoine Hubert the day before. Besides, Spa-Francorchamps is a very special track, and one that I think every driver likes.”
The Ferrari driver points to the weather: “You can always expect the weather to give you some excitement, and it looks like this weekend will be almost all wet, so we hope to be competitive in these conditions as well. Honestly I think we did pretty well when it was all wet or all dry, we had made the most of our package. I personally struggle in half-wet and half-dry conditions, but we did a lot of work at Fiorano on that aspect, and I have confidence that even in those situations I could get back to the level I want to be.”
“At the moment all the teams are very close to each other, especially in qualifying. In Hungary we were all within 7-8 tenths in Q3, so it was a very close battle beyond the top three. Small differences can have a big impact on the results, and I think for now we have to focus on the track on every detail, because it can have an influence on the final outcome now more than ever, especially in qualifying. In Budapest we probably left a little bit of performance here and there, which had a big impact on our weekend. The overall picture indicates that we are quite fast, we know that and we are working hard to get back to the level we would like as quickly as possible,” Leclerc concluded.
