Jannik Sinner and social video: fans don’t miss the new service
A change in style that could not help but trigger comments from die-hard fans.
Jannik Sinner is not stopping after Wimbledon, and in recent weeks he has been training hard in preparation for upcoming engagements (starting with the week of August 7-13, on the concrete in Toronto for the Canadian Open). In any case, a very brief clip on Instagram was enough to confirm to his fans a news in progress.
In his social post, accompanied by the song “Feels Like Summer” by Samuel Jack, Sinner is seen in service action: the video lasts barely a handful of seconds, with the images then rebooting in reverse. This was enough, however, to make official a change of style on his part. And several comments on the post demonstrate this.
“I notice you have changed your movement on serve,” one user wrote (in English). “For the Us Open we want a 250km/h serve,” was the wish of another. Sinner’s experiment, moreover, also generated judgments in literally opposite directions. “Please go back to your old serve,” indeed commented someone. “Way to go, you’re improving with your serve as well. Just a little more and you’re in the Tops. Number one, pride,” was the opinion of another follower of the South Tyrolean.
“Jannik will never become the English Evans, who plays 150 slice per game. He used to play three, now maybe he gets to 10. In practice we try it, but out of the game it’s all easier: certainly the back is not a natural shot for Jannik, incorporating it into his game is part of a process, it will take time. He is so used to coming in with the two-handed backhand glide on the recovery that it is now an automatism. The back is more difficult for him for this reason as well,” Simone Vagnozzi said about Sinner in a recent interview for ‘Corriere della Sera.
