Paolo Bertolucci no-nonsense about Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini

With only a few days to go before the start of the Toronto Masters 1000, “Sky Sport” commentator Paolo Bertolucci commented on the momentum of Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini’s form and their decision to return directly to the North American tournament two weeks after Wimbledon.

“I agree with the choice they made. We are just over halfway through the season and they had to prepare for the American cement, which is a very hard surface. It was logical for Sinner to make that choice. Berrettini had returned quickly to Wimbledon, but he had not done adequate preparation. Hopefully, Matteo will have no more injuries and more victories will give him the confidence to return to the top, as his current ranking is not true,” the “Sky Sports” commentator began.

“Jannik is having continued growth and needs to continue on his path. A second consecutive semifinal in a Slam would be crucial, it also depends a lot on the state of his form and the scoreboard. In my opinion Sinner is doing the right things. After the US Open we will start to draw conclusions, but let’s not forget that he is at his best in the indoor season. He maybe suffers a bit more on clay, but otherwise he is doing well everywhere in all slams,” added the former tennis player.

In conclusion, Paolo Bertolucci addressed the level of Italian tennis: “There are still several months to go. If Berrettini will find continuity of performance, with him, Sinner, Musetti, Sonego, Bolelli and Fognini we are the strongest team in the world. Even more than Spain. Alcaraz makes a point, then you can lose dan Iberian number two, but I think we are still stronger, even in doubles.”
