ATP Toronto draw: for Jannik Sinner possible derby with Matteo Berrettini in opener
The men’s singles draw for the Toronto Masters 1000, starting Monday, August 6, was drawn on Friday. There could be an immediate derby for Jannik Sinner: the South Tyrolean tennis player in fact awaits the winner of the challenge between Matteo Berrettini and Frenchman Gregoire Barrere.
Sinner, seventh seed in the seeding, could also cross another compatriot in the third round: it is Lorenzo Sonego, who is expected to have a complicated debut with Scotland’s Andy Murray. The number one Italian tennis player is in the top half of the draw, where Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas, whom he could cross paths with in the quarterfinals, are also present.
Lorenzo Musetti, on the other hand, was drawn in the lower part of the draw and will face Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round. The Carrara native, the tournament’s number 16 seed, however, will have a tough time as early as the third round where he is expected to face number two seed Daniil Medvedev.
Finally, the last Italian player involved in the National Bann Open is Matteo Arnaldi, who, however, must go through the qualifiers to hope to enter the main draw.
