An important success, against a Bundesliga veteran.

Salernitana winning against Augsburg, beaten in a comeback 2-1 in the Angelo Iervolino Trophy that goes to the granata. At the Arechi, the goals all came in the second half, with a penalty from Tietz and then goals from Lassana Coulibaly and Botheim giving Paulo Sousa the victory and patron Antonio Iervolino the trophy dedicated to the memory of his late father.

Few emotions in the first half, when mostly Candreva, Sambia and Botheim tried but no goals came. On the other side, after an initial blunder by Costil, the Granata goalkeeper redeemed himself with a confident intervention on a corner for Augsburg. The Germans made up for it in the opening half, however, when in the 53rd minute Tietz dispatched Costil by converting a penalty awarded for a foul by Mamadou Coulibaly on Gumny.

Salernitana’s equalizer came as early as the 59th minute, however, thanks to a splendid individual initiative by Lassana Coulibaly, who aimed at the goal after winning a midfield clash and found the net with a bolide from the distance. Candreva and Bradaric rehearsed for the winning goal, which came in the 73rd minute thanks to a choral action: it all started again from a great recovery by Lassana Coulibaly, who then opened on the left for Candreva who was good at finding Botheim on time for the decisive deflection.

Important then was the proof of the attack of the Grenadians, whose patron Iervolino had in any case made a real appeal in mid-July. “Our hope is that Dia decides to stay in Salerno – he had explained to ‘Sky Sport’ -. But the future does not depend on us, since there is a rescission clause. We in any case really hope that he stays at Salernitana. We redeemed him from Villarreal precisely because we consider him fundamental to our team.”
