Jannik Sinner vs. Andy Murray: The last time the Azure infuriated him.

Jannik Sinner challenges former world number one Andy Murray in the night’s main event of the third round of the Toronto Masters 1000. It promises to be a tough match against the Scot, who after beating Lorenzo Sonego also got rid of Australian Purcell in the second round.

The record between the Blue and Murray is one win each: in 2021 the Briton won in two sets in Stockholm, and in 2022 Sinner took revenge in Dubai, winning in two sets 7-5, 6-2.

On the occasion Murray showed himself very annoyed and angry with himself after the knockout: “I was not tired at all and now I feel frustrated with myself. Again I feel like I didn’t give my best and I didn’t have a good match,” he had said after the match. “I had some chances at the end of the first set, but I didn’t take advantage of them and I missed three of the next four balls. On 5-5 he broke me and in that game I didn’t even put a first, clearly after that I didn’t respond well mentally to what happened.”

Murray, eliminated in the round of 16 at the Washington tournament by Fritz, still feels competitive at a high level and still hopes to move up in the rankings.
