Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz and all Us Open free to air on SuperTennis
The big day è has arrived: after 34 years of limited viewing on pay TV, the US Open is back on free-to-air thanks to SuperTennis, which has been awarded the rights to the New York Slam for 5 years on an exclusive basis.
After opening a free-to-air window on Wimbledon, starting today with the qualifiers and until the end of the competition (Sept. 10), fans will thus be able to enjoy exclusive live coverage of the unmissable spectacle of another one of the four most important tournaments in the world, with ad hoc programming never before seen free-to-air in Italy for a Slam tournament.
"È a historic moment, for Italian sport, for information, for our Federation: with pride we bring back into the homes of all Italians a Grand Slam tournament, after more than thirty years of viewing limited to pay TV – emphasizes the President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, Angelo Binaghi –. È a commitment that we have taken on, for five years, because we are convinced that SuperTennis must have among its missions that of guaranteeing a public service, a task that it has been fulfilling more and more excellently for fifteen years”.
With the start of qualifying (August 22-25), the US Open will officially kick off on SuperTennis: Italian matches will be visible on the linear channel while up to 9 courts a day will be simultaneously covered live by SuperTenniX. On the streaming platform (free service for all FITP members) the main matches, highlights, interviews and many other exclusive contents will be available on demand.
From Monday, 28, the main draws will start instead. In addition to the linear channel, SuperTennis will broadcast the’last Slam of the year also through the HbbTV (acronym for Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) technology that will allow’owners of Smart TVs on digital terrestrial, to access 3 more courts at the same time, by pressing the green button on the remote control: this will open up a mosaic screen (landing page in jargon) in which the viewer – with the help of the arrows on the remote control – will be able to move to select one of the 3 fields, thus offered in addition to the one contextually broadcast live on the linear channel. These additional 3 channels will remain on 24 hours a day: once the live broadcasts are over, a deferred programming will in fact begin, exactly as on the linear channel.
SuperTennis daily programming will begin from Rome. At 1:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., appointment with the studios of ‘SuperTennis Today Speciale Us Open’, where SuperTennis specialists will analyze and comment on the main issues of the tournament joined by a large team of talent composed, among others, by the newcomers; Barbara Rossi and Filippo Baldi as well as Gianni Ocleppo, Diego Nargiso, Giorgio Galimberti and Francesco Elia.
The 4:45 p.m. slot will essentially introduce the day that is about to begin, ‘passing the baton’ to the New York studio, located inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main court at Flushing Meadows: a continuity studio that, between matches, will welcome live guests and protagonists, bringing to Italian homes all the atmosphere of the Major in the ‘Big Apple’, also thanks to interviews, links and exclusive material from SuperTennis correspondents.
