Sainz-Leclerc duel at Monza: Frederic Vasseur spills the beans
Satisfaction outweighs sorrow, and there'è also praise for the pilots.
Ferrari beaten by Red Bull also at Monza, with Max Verstappen winning the Italian Grand Prix and Sergio Perez right behind him. Carlos Sainz è dream lasted only 15 laps, before his Dutch rival overtook him. After the 46° pass, then, five laps of no-holds-barred struggle with Charles Leclerc began. And at the end of the day the judgment of Frederic Vasseur è only positive.
The Ferrari team principal è dwelt in particular on the bitter duel for third place between Sainz and Leclerc, which he actually judged to be anything but bitter. "In the end, I asked both of them not to take risks,” Vasseur explained to 'Sky Sport' -After this indication from me, the responsibility was all theirs. They rattled me a bit, but I really appreciated their battle".
Vasseur then wanted to clarify that Monza’s was not è a lost victory for Ferrari: "Today doing more than we did to counter Red Bull was impossible. They were better than us on race pace. Maybe we could have kept Perez in between our two drivers, but even that was complicated. Compared to usual we però saw a much smaller gap, and that è a good sign. The weekend for us remains very positive".
Different outlook, however, ahead of Singapore. "The value of the single-seaters this year changes from track to track. And even in the next Grand Prix we will start from scratch. On tracks like Monza we are in better condition, the next race will be a different story. But we aim to make progress even on circuits like that", concluded Vasseur.
