Davis Cup, starting without Jannik Sinner
Italy-Canada
At the Unipol Arena in Bologna this afternoon Italy takes the field, immediately called to a fascinating challenge against reigning champions Canada, who last year in November in Malaga won their first, historic trophy.
Yesterday on the eve of the challenge Lorenzo Sonego and Lorenzo Musetti trained at length right on the Central, under the watchful eye of Umberto Rianna the former and Filippo Volandri the latter. A training session that sparked the enthusiasm of the tennis school kids in the stands and probably hinted at likely choices.
Today at 2 p.m., an hour before the start of the match, the two captains will announce the names of the singles and doubles players (although the latter can be changed until the last minute).
In Bologna, the captain of the’Italdavis chose to bring Lorenzo Musetti, Lorenzo Sonego, and Simone Bolelli along with Matteo Arnaldi and Andrea Vavassori, the latter two making their national team debut. Weighing obviously are the absences of Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini.
Instead, the “colleague” from Canada has chosen to rely on Denis Shapovalov, Gabriel Diallo, Vasek Pospisil, Alexis Galarneau and Kelsey Stevenson.
