WTA Guadalajara: Camila Giorgi convinces on debut
Camila Giorgi's adventure in the WTA 1000 in Guadalajara begins on the right foot. The Marche-based tennis player, in fact, defeated in two sets (7-5 6-3) the Egyptian Mayar Sherif, number 33 in the world rankings, in one hour and fifty minutes of play.
After a complicated start, especially on serve, surrendered by Camila in the opening game but immediately recovered, and in which she had to save more than one break point in the following games, Giorgi è rose in intensity and got the decisive break at the most important moment, on 6-5 in her favor, thus winning the first partial.
In the second set Giorgi took off immediately, flying in an instant first to 3-0 and then to 5-1. Here her opponent attempted a comeback, nullifying as many as four match points for the Italian. In the fifth però Camila made the match her own, closing the second partial 6-3.
Giorgi thus enters the second round of the Mexican tournament where she will face Spain’s Cristina Bucsa, who beat Mladenovic with a double bagel (6-0 6-0).
