The "Guadalajara Open Akron", WTA 1000 tournament with a prize pool of $2,788,468, saw two Italian players advance to the third round (i.e., the round of 16) on the concrete courts of the state capital of Jalisco in Mexico. 

Camila Giorgi, number 56 in the rankings, began the tournament by eliminating Egyptian Sherif (number 33 WTA and 14th seed) in two sets, and today, in her next match, she decisively defeated Spain&#39s Cristina Bucsa (number 87 in the rankings) with a score of 6-1 6-2 in one hour and nine minutes.

The Marche player will play for access to the quarterfinals against the winner of the match between Australia&#39s Storm Hunter (number 156 WTA, but sixth in doubles) and Greece&#39s Maria Sakkari (number 9 ranking and second seed).

Martina Trevisan also reached the third round (round of 16), replicating last year's result. The 29-year-old Florentine left-hander, ranked number 54, won easily against Dutch Schuurs, who has no ranking in singles but è number 13 in doubles. In the tricolor derby, she defeated Jasmine Paolini, number 35 in the rankings and the 15th seed, with a score of 7-5 6-2 in less than an hour and a half.

On Wednesday, Trevisan will play for access to the quarterfinals against either Tunisian Ons Jabeur (No. 7 WTA and first seed) or American Alycia Parks (No. 45 ranking).
