We depart from Orvieto in the direction of Ficulle and Ponticelli, a hamlet of the magnificent Città della Pieve.

We say goodbye to Umbria and cross Montallese to reach Montepulciano, an ancient village that from the top of a hill dominates the Valdichiana and Val d’Orcia. Montepulciano and the clay hills on the edge of the Valdichiana plain are the area of production of Vino Nobile Montepulciano characterized by Prugnolo Gentile grapes.

Our ride through the Tuscan hills touches the small hamlet of Chianacce, later reaching Foiano della Chiana and Monte San Savino, home of the great Renaissance sculptor Andrea Contucci known as Sansovino and Pope Julius III. The day ends in Montevarchi in the Upper Valdarno, on the left bank of the Arno.
