Europe versus the United States, a head-to-head challenge to decide who è the best on the green. Every two years, the exciting confrontation between 24 of the world’s top golf champions brings to life an event that goes beyond sport and captivates and enthralls hundreds of millions of viewers around the world and attracts hundreds of thousands locally. The 44th edition of the Ryder Cup, which for the first time in history takes place in Italy, at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio, Rome, will be a unique spectacle and can be followed in full on Sky and streamed on NOW.
The Ryder Cup, which has a long tradition behind it dating back to 1927, pits the 12 best European players against the 12 best U.S. players. It has no prize money and is played for prestige and glory. It is played every two years, alternating one venue in the US and one in Europe. In the European editions for the third time the Ryder Cup leaves the British borders, after Spain (1997) and France (2018). At the moment, the U.S. lineup leads with 27 wins, compared to the European team’s 14 victories.
The actual challenge will begin on Friday, September 29, but will be preceded by three days of “training” of players testing the holes at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club and a series of side events. Starting with the ’All-Star Match, the traditional event that, on Wednesday, 27th, will feature golfers “stellar” including Novak Djokovic, Carlos Sainz, Andriy Shevchenko, Gareth Bale and Leonardo Fioravanti and that will be broadcast live by Sky Sport Golf and NOW starting at 12:30 pm. Thursday, 28 will conclude the Junior Ryder Cup, the challenge between U.S. and European under-18 talents now in its 18th edition: live on Sky Sport Golf and NOW from 10:30 a.m. This will be followed by the opening ceremony of the Ryder Cup 2023. From the next day, it’s serious business with the three days of competition: starting Friday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 a.m. with the first day, same start time also for Saturday, Oct. 30, while on Sunday, Oct. 1, the third and decisive day will begin at 11:30 a.m. All live on Sky Sports Golf and streaming on NOW.
In commentary, the voices that will tell the Ryder Cup 2023 will be those of Silvio Grappasonni, Roberto Zappa, Massimo Scarpa, Michele Gallerani, Marco Cogliati, Claudio Viganò and Giovanni Dassù. Live studios from Marco Simone Golf & Country Club will be conducted by Francesca Piantanida, Alessandro Lupi will be’the correspondent and will also be in charge of interviews.
In total, there will be more than 50 hours of live coverage from the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club course; in addition to the commentaries, live from the Roman Golf Club there will also be studios during the day of competition, in-depth reports aired on Sky Sport 24 during the course of the tournament and the event that will close the day. All packaged with the usual “Sky Touch” that characterizes Sky’s sports productions. From Thursday to Sunday at 8 p.m. on Sky Sport 24 Alessandro Bonan will conduct a daily strip, titled “L’originale – Speciale Ryder Cup”: the day of competition will be recounted and commented in 15 minutes, bringing together information, lightness, irony and expertise, with guests in the studio and in connection from Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.
