Davide Mazzanti out, Paola Egonu in: the Federvolley announcement
The president of Federvolley, Giuseppe Manfredi, in an interview with Sky has practically made official the farewell of Davide Mazzanti as technical commissioner of the Italian women’s national team.
"This year as far as the women’s national team is concerned, however, we have to admit that è it has been quite a disappointing season, we need to start figuring out right away how to get the whole system" back on track, explained Manfredi.
The difficult European and the flop at the pre-Olympic, with controversy attached, will lead to a change of technical leadership. The name of Julio Velasco is mentioned, but not only: "Velasco è one of the five-six hypotheses that we are evaluating, that we are sifting through. After the ’European I said that it was not the case to change, because é we did not have the material time: after four days you were already on the field for the Olympic qualification".
With the change of coach, the Federation will try to settle differences with some of the athletes who did not make themselves available or were excluded for the pre-Olympic, particularly Paola Egonu, Cristina Chirichella and Caterina Bosetti: "The new coach will of course evaluate all the cards at his disposal: let’s hope that the girls can as soon as possible resume their preparation to the fullest, solve their physical problems, but above all begin to make a championship a little more’ in tranquility" ".
