Riccardo Piatti è categorical about Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

During an interview at the microphones of the "Corriere dello Sport", former Italy coach Riccardo Piatti è bluntly expressed himself on the decision of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz to declare forfeits for the group stage of the Davis Cup.

"Sinner and Alcaraz skipped the Davis Cup becauseé they were thinking about their survival and not becauseé they were thinking about touring Asia. There will be times in their careers where they feel they are ready to play Davis and others where they are not. Italy for me should not be afraid because theyé have a team with so many players" began the former Italian coach.

"I do not understand the controversy about who plays in Davis. The important thing is to move on. I also laugh at the words of the exes who cannot put themselves in the shoes of those who play at the pace of today's tennis, where there's less time to improve and more risk of injury" continued Novak Djokovic's former coach.

"As we have seen in the last two years Italy has so many changes and great potential, no matter who is playing. The important thing is that the team goes forward and wins. For me è it is clear that these guys are all Italian, all patriotic and that they respect the Azzurri jersey. Gi athletes are faced with situations that are not always easy. The players of the past did not play with the hectic pace of today, they don&#39t even have the ability to pose certain problems" added Milos Raonic's former coach.

"In the ’90s they participated in as many as 30 tournaments, now fewer are played but over nearly 12 months. The breaks were important becauseé a player at the end of October would quit and know that for two months he would not think about tennis. Now it&eegrave; more difficult becauseé you have to find these moments during the season, but if one goes on vacation after Wimbledon in the head he&eagrave; already has the US Open“ concluded Riccardo Piatti.
