Dorothea Wierer has two dreams in the drawer
Italian biathlon star Dorothea Wierer, winner of two overall and four specialty World Cups as well as three world titles, including one in the relay at the last World Championships in Oberhof, has given an interview to Adnkronos in which she reveals her two dreams for the immediate future. Here are the words of the 33-year-old South Tyrolean who grew up in Antholz, the cradle of Italian biathlon.
“Milan-Cortina, a dream, a certainty or a possibility? I don’t deny that I would like to make it as an athlete to the Olympics at home, but I want to get there as a competitive athlete, so I want to evaluate at the end of the season what the future holds for me”.
“Last season è was a surprise for me as well in that I still won so many podiums and victories and that gave me a lot of confidence to continue. The upcoming season will see me ready and I will try to give my best as always but biathlon è a sport with many unknowns so we will see”.
“Definitely è a dream of mine to become a mom, but as an athlete for me now it is not è possible and so we will see when I decideò to stop with competitions that will be my goal. In addition to becoming a mom I also have other dreams for my post-career and I am already working for that as well and I will also be able to count on the support of my sports group of the Yellow Flames and this will è stimulate me”.
“We are more than 10 seasons into the World Cup and finding the right stimuli è is getting tougher, but with the’arrival of the races everything will be easier. We are in the period of the end of preparation and refinement of the work done during the’summer. Now we start looking for snow on the glaciers to get back on skis and at the end of the month we will go to Scandinavia to prepare for the opening of the Cup in Sweden”.
“My typical day is spread over a morning workout with, usually, also the session at the range other to organic work and another in the afternoon always organic or in the gym. In between I try to rest and if necessary have a session at the physiotherapist; in professional sports and especially in my discipline, rest è is essential and the fast pace makes it necessary to identify the best technologies to maximize the effectiveness of the little time devoted to recovery. Time for life ‘normal’ è very little but I try to carve out time for me with my family”.
“What è the greatest joy of my career and what the greatest regret? Definitely for me the World Cup in 2020 with the victories in the House in Antholz, in addition to the Olympic medals are the joys, while as a regret I can’t think of now, but there have been many moments where I couldn’t win due to external factors, but that is part of my sport”.
