World Cup, South Africa’s resounding comeback over England, Springboks in final
With an incredible comeback in the second half, South Africa beat England 16-15 in the second semifinal of the Rugby World Cup at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. The Springboks, the defending champions, a title they won four years ago against the English, will face New Zealand in the final next Saturday.
In the first half, England with two kickoffs by Farrell at 3’ and 10’ went on a 6-0 run, Libbok shortened it at 21’, Farrell scored again at 24’, Pollard, who replaced Libbok at the half-hour mark, shortened it again at 35’, but Farrell at 39’ brought his side to 12-6.
In the second half, a drop by Farrell brings the English up 15-6, but at 69’ there’s Snyman’s South African try, then converted by Pollard: 15-13. At 78’ there’è Pollard’s spot kick that sealed the overtaking and triumph for the Springboks, who in a week’s time will thus be able to defend their title.
