Marie Bouzkova is up to no good
Marie Bouzkova messes it up in Nanchang and cries. In the Czech derby with Katerina Siniakova she manages to lose after being up 5-3, 40-15 in the third set.
In the first all-Czech final on the WTA circuit since 2023, Siniakova wins in three sets: 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) after a three-hour, 33-minute match.
Katerina captured her fifth career title on the major circuit, her third on hard court after Shenzhen 2017 and Portoroz 2022.
The challenge è ended on the first match point in a cruel way: a winning ribbon gave the second trophy of 2023 to Siniakova, who cheered moderately so as not to hurt her compatriot and friend further. After hugging her opponent, Bouzkova è allowed herself to weep in despair over the resounding missed opportunity.
