Lorenzo Sonego ready for Jannik Sinner
Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16
Lorenzo Sonego’s adventure continues in the ’“Erste Bank Open”, an ATP 500 tournament with a prize money of 2,409,835 euros that is being played on the indoor fast court of the “Wiener Stadthalle” in the Austrian capital.
The 28-year-old from Turin, No. 52 in the ranking, who was re-selected to the draw as a lucky loser, beat Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, No. 21 ATP, 6-4 5-7 6-2 in two hours and 19 minutes of play.
On Thursday, in the second round (round of 16) Sonego will have to face the winner of the match – scheduled for Wednesday – between U.S. Ben Shelton, No. 15 ATP, fresh winner of his first trophy on the major circuit in Tokyo (“500”), and Italy’s Jannik Sinner, No. 4 in the rankings and second favorite in the seeding. Match that represents a rematch of the one played in the round of 16 of the “1000” in Shanghai, won on the tie-break of the deciding set by the 21-year-old from Atlanta.
