Jannik Sinner discovers his opponent in Vienna: it’s Frances Tiafoe

Jannik Sinner will find Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open, ATP 500 tournament in Vienna. The U.S., number 14 on the world circuit, è in fact managed to get the better of Gael Monfils in a comeback after a match that was anything but easy and lasted a good two hours: 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 the final.
Tiafoe suffered in the first set against his experienced opponent, currently number 89 in the ATP rankings. In fact, Monfils took the first set after snatching the decisive break from his rival even in the 11th game. Parity was restored in a second set just 22 minutes long, then the American took home the qualification in a very quick final set in which he only needed one break: the one that took him to a momentary 3-2.
His next opponent, Jannik Sinner had previously beaten Lorenzo Sonego in an all-Italian challenge and ended 6-2, 6-4. With a very aggressive strategy, almost as if he wanted to test his skills, the South Tyrolean on this occasion achieved his 21st victory in the last 25 matches, the 26th out of 28 matches played since the beginning of the year against opponents not ranked in the top 50.
