Jannik Sinner dominates derby, Sonego knocked out
Sinner-Sonego 6-2 6-4
Jannik Sinner continues to remain undefeated in ATP circuit derbies. At the Erste Bank Open, an ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, he overcame Lorenzo Sonego, number 52 ATP, with a score of 6-2 6-4.
With a very aggressive strategy, almost as if to test his skills, Sinner scored his 21st win in his last 25 matches, the 26th out of 28 matches played since the beginning of the year against opponents not ranked in the top 50.
The world No. 4 will face either Frances Tiafoe, No. 14, or Gael Monfils, No. 89, who is back in the Top 100 thanks to a win in Stockholm last week, in the quarterfinals. Sinner has a chance to equal Corrado Barazzutti's record (1978) for the most wins in a season by an Italian on the ATP circuit in the Open era, reaching 54 if he wins.
