Marta Bassino picks up the legacy of Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone

Marta Bassino Athlete of the Year FISI 2023

Marta Bassino has won the prestigious award of "Athlete of the year FISI" for 2023, excelling in the voting organized by the Italian Winter Sports Federation involving of a batch of athletes representative of the different disciplines.

The alpine skiing champion, an athlete of the Centro Sportivo Esercito and, among other titles, world gold medalist in Meribel 2023 in the Super-G, succeeds in the roll of honor to her two national teammates Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia, who were elected tied Athletes of the Year in 2022. In second place came biathlete Lisa Vittozzi, third Simone Deromedis (skicross).

More than 90 thousand winter sports fans participated in the voting. Of the initial thirteen candidates including Amedeo Bagnis (skeleton/bob artificial slope), Marta Bassino (alpine skiing), Maurizio Bormolini (snowboarding), Tommaso Dellagiacoma (skiroll), Simone Deromedis (freestyle), Dominik Fischnaller (luge artificial slope), Andrea Iori (ski d’grass), Evelyn Lanthaler (natural track luge), Simone Mocellini (cross-country skiing), Giulia Murada (ski mountaineering), Simone Origone (speed skiing), Annika Sieff (ski jumping/northern combined) and Lisa Vittozzi (biathlon).
