Victor Osimhen up for best African soccer player

Victor Osimhen è among the 30 candidates for the African Player of the Year 2022-2023 award. The Napoli and Nigeria striker è was the top scorer in Serie A last season with 26 goals and in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 10, including four in a single game.

The stars of the Morocco team that made history in Qatar last December by becoming the first African World Cup semifinalists are also in the running. They are goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, defender Achraf Hakimi, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, winger Hakim Ziyech and striker Youssef en Nesyri.

Senegalese Sadio Mane and Egyptian Mohamed Salah, both two-time winners of the award, were also nominated. Walid Regragui, who took over the Morocco leadership a few months before the World Cup, è among the 10 nominees for the coach award.

The award ceremony è scheduled for Monday, Dec. 11, in Marrakech.
