Jannik Sinner, Pioline backtrack: "Deplorable"

The director of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000, Cedric Pioline, in his end-of-tournament press conference took stock of the competition, admitting for the first time the "deplorable" overruns that characterized the first part of the event.

"We have an’exemption from the’Atp that is granted every year to organize the tournament becauseé courts 1 and 2 are not in compliance. Ditto for the doubles scoreboard which has 24 pairs instead of 28. But with three courts we can’t do any better. There were many top-level matches and 12 matches that exceeded two and a half hours of play. Obviously this has had an impact on scheduling. Unfortunately, in some cases there were regrettable overruns for both players and fans, but this è the consequence of the qualityà of the matches offered".

Because of one of these overruns, Jannik Sinner finished playing after 2:30 a.m. and decided to leave France so as not to ruin his form ahead of the Atp Finals and Davis Cup.

Pioline però reaffirmed the success of the tournament: "It went well, fan attendance è increased and three new sponsors arrived. There is a lot of talk about 2025, but that will only be the starting point. The idea è is to secure the Masters 1000 label for the next 10 or 15 years. There’s no deadline, but it seems to me that the end of the year is a reasonable enough time to make our decision" known.
