Alpine skiing, second downhill in Cervinia also canceled
Two women’s free downhill races are scheduled for next weekend
.
No dice. Overnight, weather conditions on the Gran Becca slope at the foot of the Matterhorn deteriorated. Due to heavy snowfall and strong winds, the organizers were also forced to cancel the second men’s World Cup downhill in Zermatt/Cervinia.
A blow to fans who had hoped to see the best in the specialty hurtle down the iconic slope. This is the second consecutive year that the Gran Becca slope has failed to be raced. The International Ski Federation (FIS) will decide in the coming weeks on possible dates and venues for making up the two men’s races that were not held.
At this point, the hope è that at least the two women’s free downhill races, scheduled for next weekend, can be staged. Clearly, everything will depend on the weather conditions. We can only cross our fingers.
