ATP Finals, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic play a piece of History
Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic meet in the challenge that will decide the ATP Finals champion
The X hour is about to strike: at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic will meet again against each other to vie for a real piece of tennis history. The South Tyrolean wants to become the first Italian to win the trophy that pits the world's best eight against each other; the Serb, on the other hand, wants the seventh success that would allow him to detach Roger Federer, with whom he shares the record of successes (6) just in the ATP Finals.
"Against Alcaraz I played one of the best matches of my season against one of my most important rivals this year’said Djokovic in the press conference on the sidelines of the semifinal win over the Murcian. "The break in the first set could not have come at a better time. In the round I didn’t play my best tennis, but I managed to do it in the semifinals and that è the important".
Jannik and Nole have already faced each other in the round, with the Italian being able to snatch victory after three hard-fought sets. "The defeat against Sinner made me realize what he will have to improve on in the run-up to the final,” Djokovic explained. “Until this moment Jannik è he has been the best player in the tournament. The whole audience will be on his side, forò it will also be his first final at the Finals, while for me it will be the seventh".
" I have already been in his situation, I hope my experience can help me, although I don’t think it will be soì decisive. Against Alcaraz I expressed the best tennis of my tournament, I hope to repeat myself in the final" concluded the world number 1.
Sinner, for his part, had already stated earlier that his success in the group stage would not carry much weight in the event of a final against the Serb: "Previous matches don’t matter at this point, you can win before and lose after, I’m just happy to be able to take the court here again".
