George Russell takes stock of his 2023
George Russell’s words at the press conference presenting the Abu Dhabi GP
On the eve of the Abu Dhabi Gp, Mercedes driver George Russell, among other topics, dwelt on the fight for second place in the Constructors’ Championship against Ferrari. In addition, the Briton wanted to take stock of his 2023.
"We know that we have to defend second place in the Constructors’ Championship from Ferrari's attack. We are excited about what we will experience on the track. They are obviously pumped up after the Las Vegas weekend, but we have to be faster. Surely Leclerc and Sainz will be strong in qualifying, but in the race we will try to emerge and hope that luck will be on our side" began the Mercedes driver.
"The season è has been very strange. A few times we had a lot of speed, but we didn't hit the results we wanted, for different reasons. I was coming from a positive year always in the top-5, and I thought I could restart from that point, adding experience and solidity; instead, right from the start, we found ourselves chasing. Not counting Red Bull, we had to worry first about Aston Martin and then McLaren" continued the Briton.
"Looking ahead to 2024 we will have to work hard to try to close the gap with the most dominant car in F1 history. Let’s hope that we don’t stumble and that things will work out for the best" George Russell enthused.
