Ferrari, Charles Leclerc does not hide displeasure
The words of Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc ended his season with second place in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which, however, was not enough for his Ferrari to overtake Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship.
"In the last laps we decided to try to pass Perez and finish second, but it wasn t enough,” the Monegasque admitted to Sky Sports microphones. On a weekend like this it was the maximum, because as a team it was not a given to finish 2nd, we were not that fast. We did everything perfectly, I am sorry for the Constructors, it was the only thing that mattered in this season finale".
"I thank the team, we knew it was going to be an uphill season from the start,‖ added the Rossa driver.
We were aware that we lacked performance, but the team has done a great job pushing until today. Start? I wanted to try to go in the lead, although I knew that in the race we lack pace and that Verstappen would pass me. The only goal was to beat Mercedes, even if I had found myself in the lead I would not have worn out the tires too much and lost too much time against Max".
"Big disappointment for not taking the 2° place in the Constructors, I didn’t care about the drivers. We did everything, but there are no regrets. There was nothing more to do, I had too little margin. It's nice to finish a year like this, it gives me confidence. Since Japan we made a step forward, the front was stronger and it helped me in qualifying and in the race. We have to work a lot and I hope to arrive at the first race of 2024 with a solid base to win" concluded Leclerc.
