Davide Cassani does not forget Vincenzo Nibali

Former coach Davide Cassani took stock of the season to the microphones of Sportal.it, on the sidelines of the Garmin Beat Yesterday 2023 for Charity event at the Sheraton Milan San Siro. "It wasn’t one of our best seasons,” he admitted, “because in the end we didn’t manage to get big results, apart from the track, apart from Filippo Ganna who as usual è was superlative. Sì, we saw a very good Jonathan Milan, a nice Andrea Bagioli in the final where he è came second in the Tour of Lombardy forò we è lacked a rider as far as stage races are concerned, although then Giulio Ciccone at the end in the Tour de France è managed to win the polka-dot jersey. We were used to well in the past years, now as far as stage races are concerned we still do not know who canò take the place of Vincenzo Nibali".

About the Shark he told: "I had him as a c.t. and every now and then we think about that day in Rio when he was launched towards a medal, it probably would have been a gold medal, but 11 km from the finish line è slipped and in that split second our hopes of winning a medal faded and so in the end that è one of the biggest regrets that I as a c.t. had but I think also he as a champion, as a" runner".

Pocchi doubts ahead of the next Olympics in Paris: "We will still be the quartet to beat on the track, in the team pursuit. We won the gold medal three years ago in Tokyo, and Marco Villa, the technical commissioner, will have more or less the same men (Ganna, Lamon, Consonni and Milan) and so I think they have a big chance to win a gold medal again, and then also in the women’s field we are very strong".

"For now è managed to do well on both sides (track and road, ed.). It' s natural that as far as next year is concerned, one of the most important goals for him è is just the quartet track test, forò you know this year he showed that he can also play a great classic: è came second in Sanrem, è  came sixth in Paris-Roubaix and è is a rider who can still grow in races like these and è definitely can aspire to a success in a big classic and I think his goal in the coming years will be that" he commented on Filippo Ganna
