Jannik Sinner, there’s another record: no one like him in 15 years
The magical moment is accompanied by another earth-shattering figure.
Jannik Sinner at the Davis Cup left the world stunned, with more victories and knockout performances further embellishing his memorable 2023. The double win over Novak Djokovic has però fixed in the almanacs one more datum in addition to those that the South Tyrolean had already given to himself, his career, and the increasingly numerous fans who support him.
As known, in fact, Sinner è was the first tennis player since 2019 to defeat Djokovic twice within the same season. Not only that, since 2011 è he was only the seventh to succeed in this feat (after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev). In addition to this already impressive figure, however, there's more.
Djokovic, in fact, had not lost two matches played in two consecutive weeks even in 15 years. The last time was in the now very distant 2008, when Andy Murray got the better of the Serbian. Before then only twice had the same situation occurred (in 2007 with Mikhail Youzhny and again in 2008 with Rafa Nadal). Since then, however, it had never happened again: until 2023, and Nole’s Davis Cup challenges against Sinner.
