Santos è was the team of Pelé and Neymar

A historic, resounding relegation, very hard to accept. For the first time in its 115-year history, Santos è relegated. Decisive was the last match of the Brazilian tournament in which Santos, at home, è was beaten by Fortaleza 2-1. Result that doomed the Peixe in a final day full of twists and turns with, in the end, Vasco da Gama and Bahia saved.

Huge disappointment among Santos fans. A great many in tears. Outside the stadium there were then riots. An indelible stain on the history of one of the best-known clubs in Brazilian soccer, in which so many star players like Pelé and Neymar have played. Many media outlets pointed out that Santos’ relegation came in the first year without Pelé, who passed away last Dec. 29, 2022.

Santos will play next year in the second division along with Goias, Cortiba and Amarica, who will give way to newly promoted Vitoria, Juventude, Criciuma and Atletico Goianiense. Also among the ranks of Santos, which è just relegated, is Rincon, an old acquaintance of Italian soccer (in Serie A he wore the shirts of Genoa, Juventus, Torino and Sampdoria).
