The 22nd European short-tank championships being held at the Aquatics Complex in Otopeni, Romania, until Dec. 10, are drawing to a close. It starts in high gear with the 50 breaststroke with high expectations. Entering the semifinals The Italian record holder (25"37) Nicolò Martinenghi, silver in the 100 and gold with the mixed 4×50, with the first and Simone Cerasuolo with the fourth time. The 24-year-old from Varese and deputy world champion – carded for CC Aniene and followed by Marco Pedoja – swam in 26"04, with a super return in 14"31; the 20-year-old from Emilia – carded for Fiamme Oro and Imolanuoto, coached by Cesare Casella and fifth in the double distance – 26"43. Between the two Azzurri are Turkey’s Emre Sacki in 26"15 and the fearsome Dutchman Caspar Corbeau in 26"37. Stop, despite the eighth place in 26"77, for Federico Poggio (Fiamme Azzurre/Imolanuoto).

Energy all'unicino for vice European champion and reigning rainbow bronze medalist Lorenzo Mora (Fiamme Rosse and VVFF Modena), who with a trickle of gas faces the batteries of the 200 backstroke, still snatching a pass for the next round. The 25-year-old from Emilia, Italian record holder (1'48"45) – coached at the Federal Center in Ostia by Claudio Rossetto, already gold with the 4×50 mixed and bronze in the 50 and 100 – è twelfth in 1'54"01. Leading the group is Britain’s Luke Greenbank in 1'49"79.
