Antonio Nibali files pro career

Antonio Nibali has decided to get off the bike, at least as far as professional racing is concerned: the 31-year-old from Messina, the younger brother of Vincenzo Nibali, one of the greatest champions that Italian two-wheelers can boast and himself retired at the end of 2022, has decided that nine years as a 'pro' can be enough.

Antonio Nibali's decision è matured after the non-renewal with the Astana Qazaqstan Team, a team in which he had raced first with his brother and then without, in a rather stingy 2023 season of satisfaction despite the great commitment that characterized his entire career within the group.

Speaking to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', Nibali commented: "Certainly the kinship opened several doors for me, but at the same time expectations were higher and comparisons inevitable. However, I did not let myself be too conditioned, champions like Vincenzo are born few, I have always tried to do mine to the best of my abilityà".

In his pro career, which began in 2015, Antonio Nibali has worn the jerseys of Nippo-Fantini, Bahrain, Trek-Segafredo and Astana. The win on stage 7 of the 2018 Osterreich-Rundfahrt è his only win as a 'pro', during a career that has often seen him valuable domestique, even in the Grand Tours.
