Dominik Paris breaks fast and triumphs in Val Gardena

651 days after the last time, Dominik Paris regains success in the World Cup. The Italian skier, in fact, has è imposed himself in the downhill in Val Gardena, breaking a fast of 22 years, since the last Italian to triumph on this slope was Kristian Ghedina in 2001.

The Merano native crossed the finish line in 1:59.84, ahead of Norway’s Aleksander Kilde and the U.S.’s Bryce Bennett, who were 44 and 60 hundredths off the top, respectively. At the foot of the podium, however, was Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin (+0.65), while Canadian James Crawford (+0.67) rounded out the top five. Completing the top 10: France&#39s Nils Allegre (+0.87), Italy&#39s Mattia Casse (+0.92), Switzerland&#39s Marco Odermatt(+0.92), Austria&#39s Marco Schwarz (+0.95) and Switzerland&#39s Niels Hintermann (+1.13).

As for the other Italians, Florian Schieder and Christof Innerhofer finish 15th and 19th respectively, +1.60 and +1.66 behind their compatriot. Finishing over 40th, however, were Pietro Zazzi and Guglielmo Bosca.

At the end of the race, Dominik Paris did not hide his satisfaction to the microphones of "Rai": "I was not sure if I skied well, I tried to be clean and loose, but I did not know the time at the finish line. When I saw the green I got excited, I had been trying to win for years but had never succeeded. Finally right here I win. The snow was not aggressive. I felt good, I tried to do the jumps well and lì I was able to make a difference by gaining speed. I struggled a lot last year and finally managed to redeem myself".
