European Cup arrives, Obereggen reopens slopes

Obereggen opens, Dolomiti Superski opens. The South Tyrolean resort of Ski Center Latemar and the world’s most famous and largest carousel, 20 minutes from Bolzano, will kick off the season Friday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.; ahead of the European Cup slalom on Tues; Dec. 19 on the Maierl slope (maximum slope gradient of 55 percent, difference in altitude of 433 meters, length of 1.6 kilometers of slope), also awaited by the athletes of the 40° edition of the World Cup slalom in function of the one in Madonna di Campiglio (Friday, Dec. 22).

On the evening of Friday, Nov. 24 in Obereggen, the Apr’s-Ski “LOOX–The Alpine Club” downstream from the historic Oberholz chairlift will open. S’ll thus inaugurate the winter season of the most famous carousel in the world: the Dolomiti Superski, cradle of the traditional World Cup races in Gardena December 15 and 16 (downhill, Super G) and Alta Badia December 17 and 18 (giant).

On Saturday, Nov. 25, 9 lifts will open in Ski Center Latemar and, as of now, the connection between Obereggen and Pampeago for the first descents, without ever unhooking skis, from Val D’Ega in South Tyrol to Val di Fiemme Trentino and vice versa. The historic 4-seater Oberholz chairlift and its namesake mountain hut, the 8-seater Ochsenweide gondola lift, the Laner chairlift (6-seater chairs + 8-seater cabins), the Absam-Maierl 6-seater chairlift, the Reiterjoch 8-seater chairlift, and the Obereggen 4-seater chairlift will be open from Saturday. In Pampeago the historic Agnello 4-seater chairlift, Latemar 4-seater chairlift, Campanil 6-seater chairlift. The third resort of Ski Center Latemar, Trento’s Predazzo, will open its lifts on Saturday, December 2. Among the novelties of the 2023-2024 season will be the “skimovie” on Obereggen’s Toler slope: skiers will be able to test their skills in an exciting parallel slalom. Two cameras will film the race along the 200-meter slalom. The course will be set up every day on slope 8 (Toler) and will be open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the end, skiers will receive the time they took in the slalom and a video of the descent that they can download for free and share with friends.
