A Bitter… Montenegrin: Luciano Spalletti Isn’t Raising a Toast This Time
Luciano Spalletti had publicly praised him, acknowledging his qualities and potential, but without managing to give him the playing time he needed to truly shine. Now Vasilije Adžić has gotten his revenge in the most bitter way possible for the Tuscan coach (who, along with Francesco Totti, is a spokesperson for Amaro Montenegro): by deciding the Sassuolo-Juventus match and handing the Neroverdi a particularly bitter defeat.
The Montenegrin midfielder has, in fact, left Juventus to join Sassuolo on loan through June 30, 2027. Juventus retains ownership of his contract, while the agreement between the clubs includes an option for Sassuolo and a counter-option in favor of Juventus. This arrangement leaves the door open to various scenarios, especially since Adžić’s contract with the Turin club runs through June 30, 2029, as shown in the club’s official financial documents.
Sassuolo, however, was not the only club to make a move for the 2006-born player over the summer. Ad’i’ had also been targeted by Cagliari and Genoa, with the Sardinian club appearing to have the upper hand for a time, largely thanks to the approval of coach Fabio Pisacane. In the end, however, it was Sassuolo that secured the young midfielder, integrating him into its plans.
This decision came after a season in which Adžić saw very little playing time at Juventus. He played just 123 minutes in league play—far too few to allow him to find consistency and fully showcase his talent. Yet Spalletti himself had hinted that he saw important qualities in the Montenegrin, highlighting his excellent ball-handling, work rate, and physical build, while also noting the need for him to develop greater composure on the ball during matches.
These words take on even greater significance after what happened against Juventus. Adžić, after all, had already shown he was no stranger to scoring crucial goals late in matches. Last season, it was he who scored the decisive 4-3 goal in the Derby d’Italia against Inter, firing a powerful shot that showcased all the qualities of this Balkan talent.
That goal seemed poised to mark the beginning of his Juventus adventure. However, the limited playing time he received afterward led to a temporary separation and a transfer to Sassuolo. And it was precisely against Spalletti and Juventus that Adžić once again made his mark: a twist of fate for those who had recognized his qualities but had failed to fully harness them.
