MotoGp, KTM ready to imitate Ducati
Pit Beier ready to take another step closer to the top
Despite not having any successes in the MotoGp class Grand Prix of the 2023 season (the only two victories came in the Sprint races in Argentina and Jerez, both thanks to Brad Binder), KTM è has been the second force in the championship, behind the unreachable Ducati. To Pit Beier, Motorsports Director of the Austrian manufacturer, coming in behind the winners però is not enough and in an interview to 'Speedweek' he said he wants to imitate precisely the Rossa di Borgo Panigale, deploying more teams and more bikes on the track as possible.
"The way things are going, I would definitely say I want to have a third team,” Beier said.
The reason? Simple: having six riders on the track instead of four has its advantages, we would have more data available to compare and more room in general to react to the progress of the opponents, keeping our talents within the KTM family".
The decision però will certainly not be able to take effect immediately: "The ideal would be to have our third team in 2025, but to make that happen we have to make a quick decision,” Beier explained. “The timing? I would say that within the first three, maximum four months of 2024 we need to have a clear idea of what to do".
KTM raced the 2023 MotoGp World Championship with an official team, with Brad Binder and Jack Miller as standard bearers and Dani Pedrosa wild card at Jerez and Misano, and also provided its RC16s to the GasGas Factory Racing Tech3 team, with Augusto Fernandez and Pol Espargaró on track and Jonas Folger replacing the latter during his injury layoff.
