Genoa, Mateo Retegui’s return is an unknown
Alberto Gilardino is uncertain about the return of Mateo Retegui
It cannot be said that it is a lucky period for Mateo Retegui: the Genoa and Italian national team striker è has been struggling for some time with several physical problems that are limiting his impact and his comeback after the latest muscle problem, which kept him out of the match against Juventus, is still unclear to him nor to the technical staff led by Alberto Gilardino.
The Rossoblù coach, who in the meantime has found Kevin Strootman again but at the same time lost, due to a muscular sprain suffered against the Bianconeri, the Brazilian Junior Messias, cannot in fact set a certain date for Retegui’s return: the absence against Sassuolo on Friday è è practically certain, some possibility would seem to be there for the following day, on December 29 against Inter, althoughé no predictions can be made in this sense.
Retegui is therefore in danger of not seeing the field again until the beginning of 2024, a defection that certainly does not help a team that is going through its most complicated period since the beginning of the season: in the last four league games, in fact, only two points have arrived, against Empoli and Juve, in between there was also the elimination at the hands of Lazio in the Coppa Italia and the last victory dates back to last Nov. 10, against Hellas Verona.
The Italo-Argentine, between one injury and another, has also lost his way in goal: in fact, his last goal dates back to last Sept. 28, in the debacle 4-1 to Roma: since then, his appearances on the field have been just 5, one of which was in the Coppa Italia, and the goal has not è arrived. Gilardino hopes to get him back as soon as possible also to make him regain confidence in that regard.
