Superleague ruling: Florentino Perez and Real Madrid rejoice, Uefa pulls straight
"Today è a great day for the history of soccer and sport": this is how Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, commented on the EU Court’s decision on the Super League. "European club soccer is not è and will never again be; a monopoly", added Pérez in a video released by the company".
"We have the duty and responsibility" to give European soccer the new impetus it so badly needs: we will continue to support a modern project,” he added, “which is fully compatible with national competitions, open to all, based on sporting merit and which effectively imposes compliance with Financial Fair Play".
There’è also the first reaction to the ruling by Uefa, which reaffirms its intention to continue with the "European sports model collectively with national federations, leagues, clubs, fans, players, coaches, EU institutions, governments and partners" and hopes that "the soccer pyramid will be safeguarded by European and national laws from the risk of secession".
"Uefa takes note of the ruling issued today by the European Court of Justice in the European Superleague case,” the Uefa note emphasizes. “This ruling does not mean an endorsement or validation of the so-called Superleague; rather, it underlines a pre-existing gap in the pre-authorization framework of Uefa" which "trusts in the soundnessà of its new rules, and in particular in compliance with all relevant European laws and regulations".
