Cagliari, Claudio Ranieri calls out to fans
Cagliari contends with Empoli for important points for salvation
It will be an important if not fundamental New Year's Eve for Cagliari, which will contend against Empoli, in the match scheduled just on Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. at the Unipol Domus, very important points in the salvation key. Claudio Ranieri presented in a press conference a match that, if won, could allow the islanders (should Halles Verona or Udinese fail to score) to get out of the relegation zone.
"It will be an important match for both teams – Ranieri confirmed in front of reporters -. Empoli è very well organized, presses high and does not let the opponent reason. They are also the team that has committed the most fouls, they have tough and tenacious players. We però play at home, I expect the push of our fans. The goal è to win, possibly without conceding goals".
The last game, another challenge-salvation against Hellas Verona, did not è go well for the Rossoblù, as it was 2-0 in favor of the Scaligeri. "Apart from the expulsion (of Makoumbou on 0-0, ed.) the team played well. Finding ourselves in ten heavily conditioned the result. We should have scored in the first half, we would have created the conditions for a different result".
After a bad start to the season, Cagliari started to rack up points from the end of October onwards, but remains, after 17 matches, in third-last place. The next challenges will be very important to get back on track: after Empoli in the league and the Coppa Italia bracket against Milan, the islanders will face Lecce, Bologna, Frosinone and Torino in January, a poker of challenges that will say a lot about their ambitions to stay in A.
